Insanity Lab Racing Visits Hajek Motorsports

GT90 Rear End

Many are stubborn in pursuit of the path they have chosen, few in pursuit of the goal.

Here at Insanity Lab Racing we believe in having big dreams; backed with determination and know-how anything is possible. Sometimes it might feel the deck is stacked against ones will — like getting sick days before you were supposed to fly, only to have to [attempt to] reschedule in the middle of a snow storm. Whatever the obstacle may be, there’s always at least one more thing that can be done to overcome the problem. For our team, there was no way we were going to miss the opportunity to meet with Brent Hajek of Hajek Motorsports and marvel at his GT90 in person.

Contending against Covid flight restrictions and the fear of being forced to quarantine if one of us were to get sick was less of a concern than that of shipping expensive and delicate electronics; the West Coast hasn’t exactly been having a stellar track record with their logistics. While there was a definite risk of snow (there was a major storm the week prior) we concluded that our best option to get out to Ames, Oklahoma was to drive there ourselves. We left our shop in Yelm, Washington on Saturday morning, departing to the ever-so-familiar murky grey clouds that Washington winters are known for.

Trip to Hajek Motorsports

The road trip itself was ultimately uneventful — except for a white-out blizzard around 3AM driving through the mountain pass in Utah. Fortunately Dave is a tank and was able to navigate us through the pass without issue. Plus to be honest, I’m not sure if ten feet of snow would have stopped up from reaching Hajek Motorsports.

The drive itself was a nice change of pace from our normal 6×12 shop life, although we didn’t take much of any breaks to speak of on the way there. We did sneak in some Texas barbeque on our way back from Oklahoma, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Here’s a few photos I snapped along the drive that didn’t entirely suck.

We must have died and went to Ford heaven

We made it to Oklahoma Sunday night and got a good nights rest before heading into Ford Heaven — also known as Hajek Motorsports Museum. For those that don’t know, Brent Hajek is no stranger to Ford powered racecars, breaking a few land speed records and putting together a collection of cars that make grown men giddy. That is in part why you will find the world’s only GT90 in his museum, but that is a different story for a different day.

Without further adieu, here’s the GT90 in her full bald eagle screaming, V12 quad-turbo American supercar.

So what did we gain from this trip?

The trip was definitely a blur and we’re still decompressing and catching up with the massive trip in a short order of time. Here’s a few notes that come to top of mind after seeing the GT90 in person:

  1. Brent (the owner) is awesome. He made us feel at home and shared a plethora of knowledge about Ford, Ford Racing and his amazing collection he has literally built.
  2. At 6’4″ I can comfortably sit in the GT90 — not quite possible in the GT40s without a gurney bubble.
  3. We’ve connected the missing dots of the GT90 puzzle and how it ultimately ended up in Ames, Oklahoma after disappearing before auction.  Another story for another day.
  4. We captured the car in 3D, unblocking the processes for chassis design and mold making for reproductions.
  5. We have an exclusive license to recreate fifty GT90 reproductions using the scan data — twenty-five units will be made available in rear wheel drive and twenty-five units will be produced in all wheel drive.
